Mother Teresa's first heart attack in 1983 (Gui Hai 癸亥 year) was not a coincidence. By analyzing her BaZi chart together with her Luck Pillars (Da Yun) and annual influences, we can clearly identify the underlying causes. Her favourable element (用神 Yong Shen) was severely damaged, with Ding Fire 丁火 being overwhelmed by excessive Water, manifesting as heart disease. The timing of the illness was also precise—it occurred exactly in the year when multiple 劫 (Rob Wealth – 劫财 Jie Cai) and 比 (Friend – 比肩 Bi Jian) influences combined to form a powerful Water configuration.
In Mother Teresa's natal chart, the 劫 (Rob Wealth – 劫财 Jie Cai) and 比 (Friend – 比肩 Bi Jian) stars were exceptionally strong, while her favourable Ding Fire 丁火 Wealth Star was hidden within the 戌 Xu (Dog) branch and not visible. It was only at age 67, when she entered the Ding Chou (丁丑) Luck Pillar, that Ding Fire emerged in the Heavenly Stem. At age 77, upon entering the Bing Zi (丙子) Luck Pillar, Bing Fire also appeared in the Heavenly Stem. Although these favourable Wealth Stars surfaced, whenever a year introduced even stronger Companion and Rob Wealth influences, the Fire element lost its protection and became vulnerable to the overwhelming Water element. The resulting clash of strong Water against Fire ultimately manifested as heart disease.
In her later years, Mother Teresa suffered from persistent chronic illnesses. The events unfolded exactly as indicated by her BaZi chart, demonstrating a remarkably precise correspondence between destiny and actual life events. A popular saying in BaZi circles is, "Only a strong Day Master can carry wealth (身旺可以任財)." In other words, only a chart with strong 劫 (Rob Wealth – 劫财 Jie Cai) and 比 (Friend – 比肩 Bi Jian) stars is capable of handling wealth and becoming rich.
Mother Teresa's chart was exactly such a case—her Day Master was strong, her Companion and Rob Wealth stars were powerful, and even the 伤 (Hurting Officer – 伤官 Shang Guan) appeared in the Heavenly Stem. Yet she remained materially poor throughout her life. This does not mean that every Catholic nun or priest faithfully follows Christ's vow of poverty. Rather, Mother Teresa lived in poverty because her BaZi chart simply did not have the capacity to enjoy wealth.
The answer should now be apparent. In Zi Ping BaZi 子平八字論吉凶, judging fortune and misfortune requires far more than identifying favourable and unfavourable stars. One must also examine the interactions of generation and control (生剋 Sheng Ke), assess the relative strength 強弱 of the elements, and ultimately evaluate the Five Elements 五行as a complete system. Strength and weakness 強弱 are not abstract concepts—they can be objectively measured through the interactions among the Ten Gods 十神 within a BaZi chart.
This is precisely why the popular saying, "A strong Day Master can carry wealth 身旺可以任財" fails in Mother Teresa's case. When she entered the Ding Chou (丁丑) and Bing Zi (丙子) Luck Pillars, both of which brought the Wealth Star into the Heavenly Stem, she did not become wealthy. Instead, she was plagued by serious illness. The reason was that her excessively strong Companion and Rob Wealth stars, being unfavourable in her chart, attacked and weakened her favourable Wealth element.
Many students of BaZi spend years of study and invest considerable time and money learning how to determine chart strength, identify favourable and unfavourable elements, and predict fortune and misfortune. Yet, in the end, they often acquire nothing more than a collection of fragmented rules of thumb and catchy sayings taken at face value, leaving them unable to make consistently accurate predictions.
The same limitation often extends to AI-generated BaZi readings. Because AI learns from existing books, articles, and online discussions, it can easily inherit the same oversimplified rules and popular misconceptions. Unless the underlying methodology correctly evaluates elemental interactions, relative strength, and the complete structure of the chart, AI may produce explanations that sound convincing but fail to accurately predict real-life outcomes.
So why did the Ding Chou and Bing Zi Luck Pillars—both of which exposed the Wealth Star—fail to bring Mother Teresa wealth? After studying her chart, the answer should now be clear.
