In BaZi analysis, any forecast must be based on how the annual Ten Gods 十神 interact with the Ten Gods and elements in your natal BaZi Four Pillars and your DaYun (大运 10-Year Luck Pillar). It is not enough to focus on the annual Ten Gods alone. Many BaZi enthusiasts fall into the trap of interpreting the year's energy in isolation, overlooking the critical interactions with the natal chart and DaYun. This approach is known as 6-Pillar Analysis, which combines the BaZi Four Pillars, the DaYun (10-Year Luck Pillar), and the current Year Pillar. This is the minimum level of analysis required to produce a meaningful and accurate forecast.
For greater precision, the analysis can be expanded to a 9-Pillar Analysis, incorporating the BaZi Four Pillars, DaYun Pillar, Year Pillar, Month Pillar, Day Pillar, and Hour Pillar. This deeper level of analysis is essential when evaluating specific moments in time, such as selecting an auspicious date and time for important events or choosing a favorable birth date and hour for a baby. The more pillars and interactions that are considered, the more accurate and refined the forecast becomes.
Today, I would like to share a real-life example.
For this individual, Bing Fire (丙) and Ding Fire (丁) represent Direct Wealth (正财 Zheng Cai) and Indirect Wealth (偏财 Pian Cai), which are associated with wealth, money, and financial opportunities. Looking at the 2026 Bing Wu (丙午) year in isolation, the exceptionally strong Fire element appears to indicate increased wealth and financial gains.
However, when this strong Fire interacts with his natal BaZi and the existing luck cycle, the outcome is very different. Instead of bringing prosperity, the wealth energy manifests as excessive greed, poor judgment, and costly mistakes.
As a result, he was sentenced to five months in prison and fined after being convicted of sharing insider information. In addition, he was ordered to pay a substantial amount to cover the investigation costs incurred by the Securities and Futures Commission.
This example demonstrates why BaZi analysis should never be based solely on the annual pillar. The true outcome depends on how the year's energy interacts with the entire chart and the current luck cycle.
