The BaZi Four Pillars of Destiny chart above was generated using our BaZi Calculator with Ten Gods 十神 Shi Shen.
The combinations and transformations of the Ten Gods (十神 Shi Shen) form the foundation—and indeed the soul—of BaZi analysis.
To apply the Ten Gods effectively, one must clearly identify:
- which Ten God is being combined (被合) and lost,
- which is released after a combination (合神被释) , and
- whether the original and transformed Ten Gods coexist (一合多神) .
Only through this level of understanding can accurate interpretation be achieved.
Case Study: Tang Ti-sheng (唐滌生)
Today, we use the BaZi of Tang Ti-sheng (唐滌生) to illustrate the dynamics of Ten Gods combination and transformation—specifically, which Ten Gods are taken away, which are released, and which continue to coexist.
Tang was a renowned Cantonese opera playwright, scriptwriter, and film director. His work played a pivotal role in the reform and development of Cantonese opera in Hong Kong from the late 1930s onward.
Over a career spanning two decades, he composed more than 400 operas and gained immense popularity. He also adapted his works into films, directed them, and occasionally acted in them himself.
At the height of his career, Tang collapsed at the Lee Theatre and later passed away from an intracerebral hemorrhage at St. Paul’s Hospital (Hong Kong) on September 15, 1959, during his Ren Yin (壬寅) DaYun.This DaYun was both his most favorable and ultimately his final phase of life.
BaZi Structure and Analysis
Born in the Shen (申) hour (3:30 PM), on June 18, 1917:
- Year Pillar: Ding Si (丁巳)
- Month Pillar: Bing Wu (丙午)
- Day Pillar: Xin Mao (辛卯)
- Hour Pillar: Bing Shen (丙申)
Xin Metal (辛) born in the Wu (午) month forms a Follower — Seven Killings structure (弃命从杀格).
Output Stars (伤官 & 食神 – Hurting Officer & Eating God)
Water represents his creativity and talent.
The combination of Bing Fire (丙) and Xin Metal (辛) is unable to transform into Water (伤食). Moreover, there is only one hidden Ren Water (壬) within the Shen (申) branch.
Based purely on structure, the lack of strong Output (Water) would suggest limited creativity and talent. However, in reality, Tang composed over 400 operas and achieved extraordinary success—clearly contradicting this surface-level assessment.
Wealth Stars (正财 & 偏财 – Direct and Indirect Wealth)
Wood represents his wealth.
Wealth was strong in his 4th Luck Pillar (2051–2060): 壬寅 (Ren Yin) Starting Age 35 — but in 1958, he was reportedly unable to settle a tax bill of HKD 6,400, which was later paid by his wife, Cheng Meng-har. At that time, this was not a small amount.
Officer Stars (正官 & 七杀 – Direct Officer & Seven Killings)
Fire represents authority, nobility, and discipline. Notably, he was never involved in politics or business.
4th Luck Pillar (2051–2060): 壬寅 (Ren Yin) Starting Age 35
The combination of Ding Fire (丁) and Ren Water (壬) transforms into Wood, forming both Direct Wealth (正财) and Indirect Wealth (偏财). This results in strong Wealth energy in the chart. Ren Water (壬) his Output Stars (伤官 – Hurting Officer) being combined and it appears to have been lost.
❓However, if Wealth was strong, why was he reportedly unable to pay his taxes in 1958? In reality, he was not truly wealthy, as money came and went.
From the surface, Water —representing his Output Stars (伤官 and 食神, Hurting Officer and Eating God) is lost.
❓Furthermore, without strong Water—representing his Output Stars (伤官 and 食神, Hurting Officer and Eating God), which govern talent, creativity, and recognition—how did he manage to compose over 400 operas, achieve extraordinary success, and gain widespread acclaim?
❓In addition, strong Wood generates strong Fire, strengthening his Officer Stars (正官 and 七杀, Direct Officer and Seven Killings), which are associated with authority, status, and discipline. If so, why did he never rise in business or politics?
💡In fact, during this DaYun, under unique circumstances and specific conditions, all three elements—Water, Wood, and Fire—coexist simultaneously.
- Water represents the Output Stars (伤官 and 食神, Hurting Officer and Eating God),
- Wood represents the Wealth Stars (正财 and 偏财, Direct and Indirect Wealth), and
- Fire represents the Officer Stars (正官 and 七杀, Direct Officer and Seven Killings).
Among them, Water is the strongest, followed by Fire, while Wood is the weakest.
This dynamic of coexistence—rather than simple transformation or disappearance—explains the apparent contradictions observed earlier.
In this DaYun,
- Ten Gods being combined (被合)
- Ten Gods being released after the combination (合神被释)
- The original and transformed Ten Gods coexist (一合多神)

Cause of Death
On September 14, 1959, during the fourth scene of the performance “脱阱救裴 ”, he collapsed in his seat and was rushed to the hospital, where he passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage in the early hours of the following morning (Yin hour, 寅时). This was due to overwork and the heightened emotions of the premiere. In term of BaZi, superbly strong Fire (正官 and 七杀) destroyed the 辛 Metal his Day Master. His death was not due to 伤官见官 — Water/Fire clash.
