His Wealth and Women: Personality Traits When the Wealth Star Is the Unfavorable (財為忌神)

BaZi: Personality When Wealth Star Is the Unfavorable Element

To verify the accuracy of the predictive principles, one would usually need some time or knowledge of the querent’s past experiences. However, verifying personality traits is relatively easier. If the querent is someone familiar, we can roughly gauge their character ourselves.

Key Point: In this article, the Wealth Star refers to Direct Wealth (正财, Zheng Cai – 财) and Indirect Wealth (偏财, Pian Cai – 才). For men with a weak Day Master, their Wealth manifests as Peers (比肩, Bi Jian – 比) and Rob Wealth (劫财, Jie Cai – 劫) rather than the Wealth Star itself (Direct or Indirect Wealth). ✅ The Ten Gods (十神 Shi Shen) System

  1. For a man, wealth and women are observed through the Wealth star (財星). If the Day Master is weak and wealth is abundant, the person may have a tendency toward greed and indulgence in women, and in some cases, may even get into trouble because of sexual matters. However, this is not always the full picture.

The tendency toward greed depends on the strength of the Wealth star. If the Hurting Officer or Eating God (傷食) generates the Wealth star strongly, negative traits are more likely to manifest.

  2. Conversely, if the unfavorable Wealth star (忌財) is abundant but weak, or it is not strengthened by other elements, or is even overcome, drained, or controlled, or if the Useful God (印劫) is hidden in the branches to avoid the harmful effects of Wealth, then although there may be plenty of Wealth, the person’s character does not tend toward greed or vice.
  3. Essentially, greed and lust are aspects of human nature, not fixed personality traits. They are more likely to appear in those whose Day Master is weak and Wealth is abundant, because the supporting elements (印劫) in the chart are not strong, resulting in weaker self-discipline and moral restraint.
  4. Some men with a weak Day Master and abundant Wealth may simply have a few more girlfriends or spend more on discretionary money, but they still follow rules and behave properly, without a flawed character. In such charts, the Supportive Star (印) is usually deeply hidden and not damaged.

Moreover, postnatal factors — including family upbringing, environment, education, and personal beliefs — also play a role in shaping character and cannot be ignored.

My son’s former classmate, “John” (pseudonym), has a BaZi chart with Bing Fire as the Day Master, the Direct Wealth (正財) star strong in the Branches, and Indirect Wealth (偏財) in the Day and Hour branches. The Heavenly Stems reveal Peers (比肩, Bi Jian – 比) and Hurting Officer (傷), making it clearly a Proper Structure with a weak Day Master .

Although John is married, he continually attracts women — one wife, one lover, and even a “fourth party” trying to get involved. Truly, “envy-inducing” (just joking!).

John feels deeply distressed. He said:

"I don’t know why these women keep appearing. I don’t want it, yet it keeps coming — I feel helpless!"

As for finances, although John has a stable income, due to women — his wife’s household expenses and his lover’s spending — he finds that every month there’s never enough money to go around.

From the above four, John’s case clearly fits the fourth category described earlier:

Key Point: "Some men with a weak Day Master and abundant Wealth may simply have a few more girlfriends or minor financial pressures, yet still follow rules and behave properly. In such charts, the Supportive Star (印) is deeply hidden and undamaged."

Insight: In John’s BaZi, although the Wealth star is dominating and strong in the Branches, it does not appear in the Heavenly Stem, and Peers directly overcome the Wealth star, so the negative traits of Wealth are not prominent.

Most importantly, the Supportive Star (印) is deeply hidden and unharmed. While Peers suppress Wealth, the intact Supportive Star ensures that John, despite the negative influence of Wealth, remains a conscientious and guilt-aware man.

However, this is also the source of his suffering — being a principled yet romantic “playboy”” is truly a painful existence!

Some people are very flirtatious and feel no guilt or shame at all. Others, after indulging in secret pleasures, are plagued by their conscience, sinking into deep inner torment and unable to free themselves.

Those who do not understand BaZi might say this is simply a matter of character or conscience. However, those who understand BaZi know that it is the influence of Peers (比肩, Bi Jian – 比) and Rob Wealth (劫财, Jie Cai – 劫) and the Supportive Star (印) at work.

It turns out that a sense of conscience is not something everyone possesses!

Key Point: “This once again confirms: destiny influences character, and character influences destiny.”
