The Life Path of a Police Officer Turned Criminal

BaZi Profiling: Police Turned Bank Robber & Killer

Tsui Po-ko徐步高 born 17 May 1970 was a Police Constable of the Hong Kong Police Force, bank robber and serial killer. He is one of Hong Kong's most known serial killers.

BaZi Four Pillars Structure

17 May, 午 (Wu) hour: Born in Hong Kong.

BaZi Structure Analysis: Ding 火 Day Master born in 巳 (Si) month, 身弱不旺 (weak Day Master, not strong). His chart shows internal tension indicating rivalry and challenges in controlling his emotion. Normally, supportive 劫财 and 比肩 could strengthen him, but not in his case – only foreshadowing inner conflict and destructive tendencies.

Key Point: BaZi Structure There is one main issue with this BaZi: it could have been a strong Day Master (身旺), but due to this flaw, the Day Master remained weak. What is the main problem with this weak BaZi Four Pillars of Destiny? When the chart is weak, it becomes highly unfavorable — clearly showing how crucial the BaZi structure (命局结构) is in determining alignment and destiny.

1991–1997

Joins the Hong Kong Police Force and trains as a constable.

BaZi Influence: Early career may have reflected a struggle to assert his abilities, as the weak Fire Day Master often lacks support to fully manifest potential. There is one main issue with this BaZi.

2001

March – Shek Wai Kok Estate Shooting, Tsuen Wan: Tsui Po-ko shoots and kills Police Constable Leung Shing-yan.

BaZi Reflection: His 劫财 (robbery) star begins expressing imbalance — instead of using energy constructively, it manifests as aggression and confrontation.

December – Hang Seng Bank Robbery, Lily City Garden, Tsuen Wan: Kills bank security guard Zafar Iqbal Khan during a robbery.

BaZi Reflection: The overexerted 劫财 and 比肩 stars show in high-risk behavior, criminal activity, and failure to control Metal (金) influences — representing external obstacles and potential loss.

2006

March 17 – Tsim Sha Tsui Police Shooting: Kills Police Constable Tsang Kwok-hang and is killed in the incident. Police officer Chuen Ka-keung is seriously injured.

When DaYun begins

In BaZi analysis, it is crucial to determine the exact starting point of one’s DaYun (大运). Contrary to popular belief, it rarely begins exactly at LiChun (立春). The actual start date is calculated based on the number of days between the person’s birth and the following Solar Term based on some formula to determine when the first DaYun begins. It’s also important to remember that BaZi calculations are always based on the Solar Calendar (阳历), not the Lunar Calendar.

His DaYun begins on 17 January of its first year in each DaYun. This means that Tsui Po-ko’s 乙酉 (YiYou) DaYun, officially 2006–2015, only started on 17 January 2007 — which is still considered the 2006 Solar year, before LiChun. Therefore, the events of 17 March 2006 still fell under his 甲申 (JiaShen) DaYun (1996–2005).

BaZi Reflection: By this time, the chart’s imbalance fully manifests — 用神 (Fire) exhausted, 劫财/比肩 stars turning destructive. His inability to control opposing Metal (金) mirrors his real-life confrontations spiraling out of control, with collateral consequences.

Key Point: During the 甲申 (JiaShen) DaYun (1996–2005), with Wood as his Useful Ten God producing Fire, and Fire controlling Metal, why did aggression, confrontation, external obstacles, potential loss, and ultimately death still occur?

2007

February 26: Coroner’s Court combines inquests.

April 25: Jury rules that Tsui Po-ko unlawfully killed three people and that his own death is legally justified.

BaZi Insight: The chart’s intrinsic weakness, coupled with misaligned 用神 and overextended 劫财/比肩, is reflected in both the start and the end of his criminal path.

In BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny) study, every chart reveals a story of element flow (alignment), strength, and destiny flow. Sometimes, a person’s chart carries strong conflicting energies — elements that push against each other, leading to inner turmoil and extreme outcomes. The case of this individual, once a disciplined police officer who turned into a bank robber and serial killer, offers a striking example of how an unaligned BaZi structure (命局失衡) and a weak Day Master (身弱) can manifest destructive behaviors when unfavorable elements dominate. Through this analysis, we explore how the interplay between Fire (火), Metal (金), and Wealth stars (财) created internal conflict, loss of control, and ultimately tragedy.
