Date Selection with Master Dong Gong and Chinese Almanac Tong Shu 通书

Choosing auspicious dates has been a cornerstone of Chinese tradition for thousands of years. Whether it’s planning a wedding, moving into a new home, starting a business, or signing an important contract, selecting the right day is believed to bring harmony, success, and good fortune.
In Chinese practice, two main systems guide date selection: Tong Shu (通书), the traditional Chinese Almanac, and Master Dong (董公) Date Selection, a specialized method developed by the renowned Master Dong. Our integrated almanac combines the best of both systems to provide precise and practical guidance for modern users.
Why Our Chinese Almanac (Calendar) Tong Shu Is Narrower and Stricter
Our Chinese Almanac is narrower and stricter than a traditional Tong Shu (通书) because it incorporates Master Dong (董公择日) date selection. While a regular Tong Shu offers broad guidance for daily activities, our almanac focuses on highly auspicious dates for major life events like weddings, moving, or signing contracts. By combining traditional astrology, Feng Shui principles, and Master Dong’s precise rules, we provide reliable, carefully filtered dates so you can plan important occasions with confidence.
Traditional Chinese Almanac Tong Shu Tong Shu (通书)
The Tong Shu, also known as the Chinese Almanac, is a yearly calendar that provides general guidance for daily activities. It includes:
- Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches (干支) for each day
- Auspicious (吉) and inauspicious (凶) activities
- 24 Solar Terms (二十四节气) for seasonal alignment
- Recommended hours (时辰吉凶) for specific tasks
Master Dong Gong Date Selection (董公择日)
Born Dong De Zhang, Master Dong Gong was a renowned astrologer of the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). Through years of careful research and corroboration of available evidence, he developed a meticulous and highly accurate system for calculating the positions and influences of stars throughout the different Solar Months of the year.
Master Dong Gong’s expertise spanned the 60-year JiaZi cycle (甲子) for each of the 12 Solar Months, and he conducted in-depth analyses of:
- 12 Day Officers (建除十二神, Jian Chu Shi Er Shen)
- 28 Lunar Mansions (二十八宿, Er Shi Ba Xiu)
- Gods and Killings (神煞, Shen Sha)
