How to Identify Your True Wealth Star in BaZi

In BaZi, the Wealth Star represents more than just money — it reflects how a person manages, attracts, and interacts with material resources, including assets, income, and even values. Each Day Master (the element of the day you’re born) controls a specific element, and that element becomes its Wealth Star.
This is traditionally seen as the symbol of income, possessions, and one’s ability to acquire or manage wealth. But identifying your Wealth Star by name alone is only the first step. To truly benefit from it, you need to determine whether it is a true and usable Wealth Star in your chart.
Every Day Master controls a particular element, and that controlled element is labelled as the Wealth Star:
Fire controls Metal → Metal is the Wealth Star for Fire Day Masters
Earth controls Water
Metal controls Wood
Water controls Fire
Wood controls Earth
Even though they are labelled as the Wealth Star, this doesn’t mean they are your true and usable Wealth.
Let’s use the Fire Day Master as our example in this article.
Is your Day Master strong or weak? A weak Day Master cannot control its wealth element, which could mean financial strain instead of gain.
1 Why Is It Important to Identify Your True Wealth Star?
In BaZi, the Wealth Star represents your ability to acquire, manage, and sustain material wealth — but not all Wealth Stars are created equal. Simply knowing which element is labeled as your Wealth Star isn’t enough. You must determine whether that element is actually usable and beneficial and it’s your true in your chart.
1.1 You Might Strengthen the Wrong Element
Each person’s BaZi chart is a very delicate. If you mistakenly believe an element (e.g., Metal) is your Wealth Star when it’s actually harmful to your chart, you may:
Activate the wrong sector, wear the wrong colors (even though this is minimal) or use the wrong Feng Shui remedies, surround yourself with the wrong people or industries and accidentally weaken your favorable elements.
Example: A weak Fire Day Master thinks Metal is his True Wealth, but if Fire is too weak to control Metal, this creates stress and overburden. The result? Financial loss, pressure, or even illness.
1.2 It Leads to Bad Financial Decisions
If you wrongly believe your Wealth Star is present and usable, you may:
• Invest aggressively during an inauspicious time,
• Quit a stable job thinking “your wealth luck is here”
• Start a business that fails due to poor elemental support
• Misreading your chart often results in losses, debt, or missed timing.
1.3 You Chase Wealth When You Should Be Rebuilding
Some charts require strengthening first — not immediate wealth pursuit. If your focus is only on the Wealth Star:
• You might skip necessary groundwork (like skill-building or reputation)
• You might ignore helpful periods meant for recovery or learning
• Wealth will not stay if your chart can't hold it.
1.4 It Gives You False Confidence
One of the most dangerous outcomes is a false sense of certainty. Thinking wealth is “guaranteed” can lead to:
• Overconfidence
• Overspending
• Ignoring risk or advice
• Misalignment with your true timing
BaZi is not a promise — it’s a map. Misreading it can take you to the wrong destination.
2 Identify the true Wealth Star
Some readers are still unable to identify their true Wealth Stars. They always feel that wealth is the element the Day Master control for example for a Fire Day Master, the Wealth Star is Metal — this is correct in theory, but in practice, whether it's truly beneficial depends on the strength of the Day Master. For a strong Fire Day Master, Metal can be considered true Wealth, as the Day Master is strong enough to control it. But for a weak Fire Day Master, Metal instead represent expenses, as the Day Master lacks the strength to manage it properly.
2.1 When Fire is Strong: Metal is the True Wealth
If the Fire Day Master is strong — supported by favorable seasons, elements, and structure — then it can control Metal effectively. In this case:
• Metal becomes usable Wealth.
• The person may manage money well.
• Wealth opportunities can be seized and maintained.
• It reflects control over financial matters.
“Think of it like a strong fire melting and shaping metal — controlled, purposeful, and productive.”
2.2 When Fire is Weak: Metal is Loss Instead of Wealth
If the Fire Day Master is weak — perhaps born in winter or lacking support from Resource or Companion stars — then it cannot control Metal. Instead:
• Metal overpowers the weak Fire.
• Wealth becomes draining, not beneficial.
• The person may spend more than they earn.
• It may signal financial loss, bad investment decisions, or poor money management.
Imagine a weak flame trying to melt a solid block of metal — the flame burns out instead.
• Just because Metal is labeled as the Wealth Star for Fire Day Masters doesn’t mean it always brings wealth. The strength of the Day Master determines whether Metal becomes a source of prosperity — or a sign of financial stress.
2.3 When Fire is Weak: Fire is the true Wealth
When Fire is Weak - Fire becomes more important than Metal, Fire is the true wealth.
In BaZi, identifying the Wealth Star (the element the Day Master controls) is only the first step. Whether that wealth can be accessed or beneficial depends heavily on the Day Master's strength.
For a weak Fire Day Master, even though Metal is technically the Wealth Star, it's not the most helpful or "usable" element. In fact:
Metal becomes a burden:
It overwhelms weak Fire.
It causes further drain and imbalance.
It may represent debt, spending, or failed business efforts instead of real wealth.
What Fire Really Needs: Support to Survive
To restore balance, a weak Fire Day Master needs:
Fire itself (same element – 比肩 / 劫财 – Companion Stars)
Wood, which produces Fire (印星 – Resource Stars)
These elements strengthen the Day Master, allowing it to eventually control Metal properly.
2.4 So What Does This Mean?
When Fire is weak, Fire is more important than Metal. In this case, Fire becomes the “true wealth” — because without it, the person cannot handle or benefit from named Wealth Stars like Metal.
Analogy:
“A weak person cannot lift gold. You need to strengthen their body first. Only then can they carry wealth.”
If you're a weak Fire Day Master and mistakenly treat Metal as your true Wealth Star—making a bold investment in hopes of becoming a millionaire overnight—you’ll likely end up disappointed and heartbroken."
3 Seeing Your True Wealth Stars Doesn’t Guarantee Wealth
Now you are aware which one is your true Wealth Star. What next? Is it whenever the True Wealth Stars appear you will be rich?
Not all your true Wealth Star can bring real wealth. You must check:
• Is the Wealth Star well-placed in the chart?
It should appear in favorable positions (Heavenly Stems, useful Earthly Branches) and in harmony with other elements.
• Are there clashes, combinations, or transformations affecting it?
Your Wealth Star could be combined away, transformed, or clashed out, making it unstable or inaccessible.
• Are your True Wealth Stars healthy or hurt?
When your Wealth Stars are strong and healthy, they can bring real wealth. On the contrary, when they are damaged or weakened, they may lead to financial losses. This is the main reason why, even when your True Wealth Stars appear, you may end up losing a large sum of money instead of making it.
4. What should you do
Once you've identified your Wealth Star and it appears, what’s next?
4.1 Consider Supporting your Useful Ten Gods 喜用神 and your favorable First
For example a weak Day Master, the focus should not be on chasing wealth directly. Instead, the priority is to strengthen the self:
• A weak Fire Day Master, for example, needs Wood (Resource) and Fire (True Wealth Stars) to survive and become strong enough to eventually handle Metal (the Fake Wealth Star).
This is why timing and balance toward your favourable matter more than the element label. Misidentifying a harmful Wealth Star as usable can lead to risky decisions, overspending, or heavy losses.
4.2 Wait for the right time
Even if your chart shows a usable Wealth Star, it may only be accessible during certain Luck Pillars or Annual Pillars. Sometimes the element is present but inactive — and only becomes "alive" when supported by the right cycle.
4.3 Real-life example
Now take a look at one real-life example of Wealth Star (财星) is Excessive and Weak & Uncontrolled.
A weak Ding 丁 fire Day Master with too many Wealth Star (财星) – metal, his weak Ding 丁 fire Day Master will not be able to control Wealth Star (财星) – metal instead of making money, he will lose more. Metal is his fake wealth only the name is Wealth.
His True Wealth stars is the element that Fire needs in order to survive and in order to control his Fake Wealth – Metal. His True Wealth is Fire.
Now look at his current GuiChou 癸丑 TaYun with strong water which will hurt his wealth which belong to fire. He will be in heavy debt if he is ambitious.
This is when he needs to know about his timing. During these few years, he must avoiding risky financial moves, saving instead of expanding.
