This article is a continuation of a BaZi case study I first documented in 2013. Back then, I analyzed Conan’s chart and shared a 5-part series. They highlighted his early struggles, the challenges he faced during unfavorable TaYun. However, I also told him that beginning in 2012, with the arrival of his 4th TaYun, his fortune would begin to shift upwards. This new cycle would gradually lift him out of his low point. It will open up the way for success in both career and love life. Now, more than a decade later, Conan has returned with updates on his life. His journey has unfolded just as the BaZi chart suggested, moving from hardship into lasting success.

The year 2012 marked the start of Conan’s 4th TaYun, and with it came a dramatic shift in his life path. After the suppression of his most useful Ten God in the 3rd TaYun, he had endured years of obstacles and stagnation. The entrance into this new Luck Cycle opened up supportive elements once again, allowing his chart to breathe and regain balance. This was the long-awaited turning point where his fortune began to recover.
By having his most useful Ten God being combined in his 2nd. Ta Yun, now let us look at his 3rd. Ta Yun.
In Conan’s 3rd TaYun, the situation shifted dramatically. This cycle brought in elements that directly suppressed his most useful Ten God — the star that had previously supported his growth and success. When the useful Ten God is weakened, the chart loses its stabilizing force, and challenges begin to surface.
In BaZi, when a Ten God is combined with another stem, its power weakens.
Since Conan’s natal chart already carried strong fundamentals, the reduced hostility actually became manageable obstacles. This allowed him to channel the remaining energy into productive areas, especially in study. In other words, the Ten Gods were not eliminated, but because they were softened by combination, Conan was still able to complete his university degree under their influence.
With hostile Ten God revealed in his 1st Ta Yun will he be able to perform at school? The truth was he did well at school. Let see why.
Conan was born with a Zhuan (extreme strong) Day Master, supported by seasonal energy and companion stars. This gave him a solid foundation, but also meant his chart leaned toward excess. For such a person, encounters with hostile Ten Gods during his TaYun could easily have caused setbacks. Yet his early chart also contained hidden balance—resources and output that gave him the capacity to absorb challenges and convert pressure into growth.
Every BaZi chart requires careful analysis, because one small mistake can completely distort the interpretation. The most critical step is determining the true strength of the Day Master. If the Day Master is judged too strong or too weak incorrectly, the entire reading of useful and hostile Ten Gods will be misleading.
