Sanna Marin, 34, on 10 December 2019, she became the country’s—and the world’s—youngest prime minister. Sanna Marin joins New Zealand’s Jacinda Ardern, 39, and Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk, 35, as heads of government in their 30s.
A Social Democrat, Sanna Marin is the third woman to hold the post, and Sanna Marin leads a coalition government of four female-led parties. Sanna Marin, a millennial raised by two mothers, is personally invested in forwarding causes like equality and environmentalism. Sanna Marin has been a member of the Parliament of Finland since 2015 and was the Minister of Transport and Communications between 6 June 2019 and 10 December 2019.
After Antti Rinne left his position as Prime Minister, the Social Democratic Party selected Sanna Marin as their new candidate for Prime Minister on 8 December 2019. Upon her confirmation by Parliament, Sanna Marin became, at age 34, both the world's youngest currently-serving prime minister and Finland's youngest-ever Prime Minister. She is also the third female head of government of her country, after Anneli Jäätteenmäki and Mari Kiviniemi - both of whom were members of the Centre Party.
Early life
Marin was born on 16 November 1985 in Helsinki. She lived in Espoo and Pirkkala before moving to Tampere. Her parents split up when she was very young; the family faced financial problems and Marin's father struggled with alcoholism. After her parents separated, Marin was brought up by her mother and her mother's new female partner.

Personal life
Marin describes herself as coming from a rainbow family as she is the child of same-sex parents (two women). She was also the only child in her family and was the first person in her family to attend university. In January 2018, she had a daughter Emma with her husband Markus Räikkönen.
