Question Date: 18/10/2025

I recently visited a Chinese metaphysical shop to choose an auspicious date for my office opening. The Sifu selected a Balance Day (Píng Rì 平日). I asked him about the reasoning behind this choice and also provided my birth details. He didn't answer my doubt. Do you have any insights on this?

Thanks again.

Chinese Almanac Tong Shu and Balance Day (Píng Rì 平日)

I can shed some light on why a Balance Day might have been chosen for your office opening, especially in the context of Chinese metaphysics and date selection.

Why choose a Balance Day?

A Balance Day (平日) is considered neutral and harmonious. It’s not overly auspicious like “Success” or “Open” days, but it’s also not inauspicious like “Break” or “Danger” days. It’s often selected when:

The goal is stability, equilibrium, or low risk

  • The person’s BaZi chart (birth details) doesn’t align well with more aggressive or high-energy days
  • The Sifu wants to avoid extremes and ensure a smooth, steady start
  • Most Important the day supports your BaZi Four Pillars of Destiny.

In your case, the Sifu may have seen that a Balance Day harmonizes better with your personal Qi or avoids clashes with your BaZi elements — even if he didn’t explain it directly.

Why no explanation?

Some Sifus prefer not to elaborate unless asked very specifically, or they may feel the reasoning is too technical for casual discussion. Since you provided your birth details, it’s likely he factored in your Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, and chose a day that avoids conflict or imbalance.

What you can do next

✅ If you're curious:

  • Analyze your BaZi chart against the selected date
  • Explore alternative dates and their Day Officer types
  • Phrase a respectful follow-up question to the Sifu that invites deeper explanation
