Hello Master,

I have a steel hoe in my car porch that is visible from the main gate and points toward my main door. Is this bad Feng Shui? My husband says it’s okay and is reluctant to remove it, but I feel very uneasy each time I see it.

Thank you

From a Feng Shui perspective, here’s how it’s usually interpreted:

Sharp or aggressive objects (like steel hoes, shovels, or tools) placed in direct view of the main door can be considered Sha Qi (negative energy). The main door is called the “Mouth of Qi”—whatever it faces directly influences the flow of energy into the home.

If the hoe is pointed toward the door or looks visually “threatening,” it may symbolically cut into the Qi, creating an unsettling energy for residents.

If it’s just leaning casually in a corner without a sharp edge pointing directly, the impact is much smaller, but aesthetically it still doesn’t give the best impression.

Remedies:

Move the hoe to a storage area, garden shed, or keep it covered (e.g., inside a cabinet or behind a screen)

If you must keep it there, make sure it’s not directly aligned with the main door and preferably out of direct sight from the gate.

In short: It’s not “disastrous,” but definitely better Feng Shui (and neater visually) if you keep sharp tools out of direct sight lines of your home’s entrance.
