Kitchen door directly facing a toilet door

Dear Master,

I have another question.

I was told that it can be bad for the kitchen door to directly face the toilet door.
Is this really that bad? Any remedies?

In Feng Shui, a kitchen door directly facing a toilet door is considered quite inauspicious


In some cases, it can be viewed as one of the worst interior layouts, especially if left unremedied.

Why is it considered bad?


1. Clashing Energies (火克水 – Fire vs Water)

Kitchen represents fire (火).

Toilet represents water (水).

Fire and water are opposing elements in Feng Shui - 水火相冲 - leading to internal conflicts, tension, or instability in the household.

2. Qi contamination

The toilet is associated with negative or dirty Qi.

When its door faces the kitchen, this negative Qi symbolically "pollute" and will contaminate the area where food is prepared, symbolizing health issues.

3. Hygiene & subconscious discomfort

Even practically, it can feel unclean or uncomfortable to have the toilet right across from where food is cooked or handled.

4. Health and harmony impact

It's bad for health especially with woman of the house (in traditional Feng Shui). Health issues include digestion and nutrition, blood and heart, .

This in turn will create financial imbalance over time if the energy isn’t balanced.

Feng Shui Remedies (if renovation isn’t possible)


1. The most important thing is to make sure your stove isn’t directly aligned with your toilet door.

2. Place a plant or a screen between the two to block direct line of sight. Plant is the most effective.

3. Keep both doors closed at all times

4. Hang a curtain or bead curtain on one or both doors

5. Use a convex mirror (八卦镜) or Feng Shui symbol, but only with guidance from a professional

6. Keep both spaces clean and well-lit to improve Qi quality

Other Consideration:

If the toilet is in an unfavorable sector in your BaZi or house Flying Stars chart, this layout amplifies the negative effect.
