Hi Master,
I read somewhere that Yi Chou males tend to have good marriages but I also noticed the 2 Yi Chous I know tend to cheat a lot but and their wives dont leave them. Is it because wood control soil?

BaZi Basics: Yi Chou (乙丑) Day Master
Yi (乙) is Yin Wood – soft, flexible, and often compared to vines, grass, or flowers.
Chou (丑) is an Earth Branch – Yin Earth mixed with hidden elements: Gui (癸 - Yin Water), Xin (辛 - Yin Metal), and Ji (己 - Yin Earth). It’s a storage (or “grave”) for Metal and Water.
Yi Wood sitting on Chou Earth isn't exactly a strong rooting combination - Earth restrains Wood, so this may indicate pressure or control but with Gui 癸 water, still have support.
Why the Marital Outcome Seems “Good” Despite Cheating
They cheat, but
- Their wives don’t leave them, and
- Wondering if it’s because Wood controls Earth (Yi controlling Chou)
Yi Chou men might have marital stability due to Wood controlling Earth (symbolically, the man controlling the wife/marriage). Cheating might come from other aspects in the chart like strong Hurting Officer, Peach Blossom, or weak Self element.

You're absolutely right to question the above with doubt.
The above explanation that many will give is a surface-level analysis, and while it's rooted in classical BaZi logic, it can come across as overgeneralized or even simplistic if we’re trying to explain real human behavior, like infidelity, solely based on a Yi Chou Day Pillar.
The above is like someone inviting you into their garden, but only taking you around the outside and they only show you the fence.
Why the above Is Superficial?
Day Pillar Alone ≠ Destiny
The Yi Chou Day Pillar tells us only about the Day Master and their spouse palace, but not the entire picture.
A person’s behavior, including faithfulness, cannot be judged by one pillar - it requires the full chart context, including:
- Strength of the Day Master
- Presence and strength of Output stars (Hurting Officer / Eating God)
- Presence and control of Wealth stars (especially for males)
- Influence of Luck Pillars (10-year cycles)
- Presence of Peach Blossom stars (e.g., Zi, Wu, Mao, You)
Now let’s take another look.
Yi Chou Chou 乙丑 Day Master both of them are weak Yi 乙 Day Master.
1. Spouse Star
Both of them have strong spouse or girlfriend stars which belong to earth. This is a strong indication of “Cheating”.
But you must remember that not all men with strong spouse or girlfriend stars are prone to cheat.
This is because 财才 can be their Wealth Star - represents money and material wealth.
2. Spouse Palace
Day branch aka Spouse Palace is stable meaning no indication of leaving.
A stable Day Branch (Spouse Palace) suggests no signs of the spouse leaving.
“Stable marriage” doesn’t always mean faithful or harmonious — it may just mean the marriage doesn't break.
The above alone can explain why they tend to cheat a lot but their wives don’t leave them. Of course, all of this may change alongside their TaYun and annual luck.

This includes the following: the most important is the last one, followed by the first.
1. Clash (冲 chōng) – The most direct way to "rock" the Day Branch
The opposite Branch in the Earthly Branch clash cycle can strongly affect or disturb the Day Branch.
For example:
If your Day Branch is Yin (寅), then Shen (申) would clash it.
If your Day Branch is Si (巳), then Hai (亥) would clash it.
Here the list.
Zi (子) Rat clashes with Wu (午) Horse, and vice versa
Chou (丑) Ox clashes with Wei (未) Ram, and vice versa
Yin (寅) Tiger clashes with Shen (申) Monkey, and vice versa
Mao (卯) Rabbit clashes with You (酉) Rooster, and vice versa
Chen (辰) Dragon clashes with Xu (戌) Dog, and vice versa
Si (巳) Snake clash withes Hai (亥) Pig, and vice versa.
This kind of clash is often viewed as disruptive to relationships or stability.
2. Destruction (破 po) – Subtle but destabilizing
A Destruction relationship can also “rock” the Day Branch but in a more indirect or sneaky way.
Example: Chen (辰) destroys You (酉).
It can cause instability, often in relationships or emotional matters. However this is not as bad as 1.
3. Combination with Transformation (合化) – Can also disturb
Sometimes a combination with transformation element (with the correct transforming element present) can change the Day Branch, causing internal shifts or emotional transformation.
Example: Yin (寅) + Hai (亥) with sufficient Wood Qi may transform the Branch, changing its energy.
This can also “rock” the palace if it results in transformation or separation. This’s not straightforward, since the whole BaZi chart must be taken into account.
4. Punishments (刑 xing) – Creates tension
Especially Self-Punishment (自刑) in branches like Chen-chen, Wu-wu, or You-you can disturb the Day Branch if repeated.
These are usually more internal and emotionally stressful. However this is not as bad as 1.
5. What Matters Most is the Element Clash.
The spouse star element is damaged and clashed away. This can be more crucial when compared to 1.
For example Spouse star belong to fire and water is very strong in the BaZi. This clash can weakens or eliminates the spouse star element.
This is the most important point, which is why I saved it for last. This is not straightforward, as one has to look at the entire BaZi Four Pillars of Destiny.
One also has to look at TaYun to see if there is any help. Again this isn't straightforward because the entire BaZi Four Pillars of Destiny must be considered. An accurate BaZi Natal Chart Calculator is very important in BaZi Profiling.
Final Thought
The above clashes may point to issues related to the partner, including:
Health problems
Emotional instability
Accidents
Or even being “absent” in one’s life
Especially when the clashes come from TaYun and years.
Depending on the specific structure and interaction, partner's health issues can be reflected in the chart. You must not ignore Feng Shui as this is another important factor. A good accurate Feng Shui Compass Calculator is very important.
