Fire did defend against metal for him. Fire is his favor and fire suppress his unfavorable metal resulting in his accident and he lost his finger. If it was the other way i.e. fire is hostile and suppress his favor metal he would have lose more. First you must find out the most useful Ten Gods 十神, his is 癸 Gui water, being combined with 戊 to become fire. Tend to have injury in 2018. Also 2 戌 clash with 1 辰 meaning injury to hands and feet.

Fire is the culprit but also his saver. Culprit as it will clash with metal (accident), saver because is his favor (not die). That's why you see good but not good.
