I have a staircase directly in front of my door. I heard this is pretty bad. Some say it going to make me broke and to be frank i am really without any saving, spending always much higher than my salary with a lot of debt.
Anything I can do to rectify this problem?

In Feng Shui, having a staircase directly in front of the main door is generally considered inauspicious, especially if it leads straight up or down without any buffer.
Why it's a problem? Qi rushes in and escapes too fast. The main door is called the Mouth of Qi (气口) it brings in life energy, a staircase facing the door creates a fast, unfiltered flow of Qi, which either rushes out (downstairs) or goes straight up without settling. This leads to unstable energy, affecting health, wealth, and harmony.
If the stairs go downward from the entrance, it's believed that money flows out — symbolizing loss or difficulty retaining wealth.
If the stairs go upward from the door, it can make life feel like a constant uphill struggle, lacking support or grounding.
Is hard because you cannot move the stairs, here are some effective cures.
1. Place a divider or screen. Use a tall plant, decorative screen, or partition between the stairs and the main door to slow down Qi flow. A round-leafed plant or wooden screen works best.
2. Add lighting - Place a bright light on the wall at the base and top of the stairs to draw Qi attention and slow its speed.
3. Use a rug or floor mat. A round or earth-toned rug near the door helps to anchor Qi and symbolically "catch" energy before it rushes off.
To summarise, stairs go down from main door wealth drains out. Stairs go up from main door, energy rushes upward (unsettled life) add buffer zone, screen, or plant. When there is no buffer zone, rushing Qi, lack of grounding add visual and energetic "brake".
What is visual and energetic "brake"
In Feng Shui, a visual and energetic "brake" refers to something that slows down or redirects the flow of Qi (energy) - especially when it’s moving too fast, like when you have stairs facing the main door.
Imagine Qi (气) as invisible wind or water entering your home, when stairs are directly in line with the door, Qi rushes in and either escapes too quickly (downstairs) or shoots upward (upstairs), which causes imbalance. So we place objects that "brake" or slow the Qi - just like a car brake slows movement.
Examples of Visual + Energetic Brakes include
1. Tall plant which blocks line of sight and calms Qi, grounds energy. Plant itself produces Qi.
2. Decorative screen which breaks direct path visually able to redirects Qi gently.
3. Carpet/rug to soften floor visually to anchors Qi at entrance.
How it works in practice.
Visual Brake is when your eyes don't go straight up/down the stairs. There's something attractive or blocking in the way.
Energetic Brake is when Qi is slowed, dispersed, or redirected so it has a chance to settle and nourish the home.
For example when you put a round leafs plant at the top/base of your staircase between the stairs and front door, your eyes notice it first, not the stairs, the plant disperses energy calming, it creates a pause in both sight and energy flow - a true “brake.”.
